PET RULES

Comment: I manage a 1,000-unit condo conversion. When it comes to dogs, you can have a well-behaved large dog and a vicious little yelper that causes a lot more problems. It ALL comes back on the pet owner and how they trained their pet. Unfortunately, many owners are irresponsible and fail to train their pets, fail to take them to the vet, fail to exercise them, etc. The poor pet suffers and it creates a nuisance for others.

Our association never allowed pets, until the 2001 law and ADA. We began to allow service animals when people produced proper paperwork, and slowly the pets began to arrive. We decided to be proactive and get the upper hand on this situation. We wrote a strict set of pet rules so we could deal with the inevitable--a growing pet population.

Response. I agree with you about irresponsible pet owners. I also agree that the best course of action is to get ahead of the problem by adopting strong but reasonable rules.

Sincerely yours,

Adrian J. Adams, Esq.
