Sudden Cardiac Arrest refers to the unexpected stopping of the heart, usually because the electrical activity of the heart is chaotic and the heart's main pumping chambers (the ventricles) quiver rather than beat effectively. This results in little or no blood being pumped through the body and brain death occurs within a matter of minutes.
