ROOFING CONTRACTORS

Starting January 1, 2007, all roofing contractors must carry worker's compensation insurance--they can no longer opt out of the insurance by self-insuring. (Bus. & Prof. Code 7125)

RECOMMENDATION. As part of the bidding process, boards or their managing agents must:

    1. Check the status of the roofer's license at www.cslb.ca.gov, and
    2. Demand proof of insurance.
